Texas Longhorns football players in the Super Bowl

There are currently a total of 57 former  Texas Longhorns football players that have not only played in the NFL, but have gone on to the big time--the Super Bowl! I don't have all the numbers and the stats on how many college football players have gone on to glory on other college teams, so I can't say this is more than other schools or anything like that, but I do know that this list is quite impressive! We, as Longhorns, have an awesome history of great players coming out of our Texas Longhorns football program!

Here is a complete list of the players, teams, year and player positions for the Longhorns in the Super Bowl!

Texas Longhorns basketball in full swing while NBA locked out

The Texas Longhorns basketball team is in full swing on their season, while the NBA is locked out. How important is college sports to you, especially during this time while the NBA is locked out with no games being  played well into December, at the very least?

The Longhorns basketball team is two games into the season and so far has a perfect winning record! The Longhorns vs Boston University basketball game took place on November 13th, 'Horns winning 82-46 and Rhode Island took on the Longhorns in Texas, losing to the 'Horns 100-90.

The next Texas Longhorns basketball game is tomorrow, Saturday November 19, 2011 at 8pm CT versus Oregon State in East Rutherford, N.J.

Check out www.longhornsbasketballtickets.com for all your Longhorns basketball ticket needs!

Texas football remaining game schedule

There are only three remaining games left in the college football schedule for the Texas Longhorns team! The first of the three remaining games takes place tomorrow in Austin, versus Kansas State at 7pm CT.

Next, the Texas Longhorns football team will take on Texas A&M at College Station, Texas on November 24th at 7pm CT. Lastly, the 'Horns football team will be up against Baylor in Waco, Texas at 2:30pm CT on December 3, 2011.

The Texas Longhorns currently have a great looking record at 6 wins and 3 loses. Let's hope the 'Horns continue on that path throughout the last three games to end the Texas football season with a record of 9 wins and 3 loses! Time will tell!

Texas Longhorns senior Emmanuel Acho makes headlines again

In an update to my blog post on Emmanuel Acho in October, the Texas Longhorns football player has made headlines again!

Emmanuel Acho has been named a finalist for the 2011 Wuerffel Trophy, announced by the All Sports Association, Inc. The Wuerffel is presented to the college football player who best combines exemplary community service with outstanding academic and athletic achievement.

The Acho family makes some outstanding citizens! Emmanuel's brother, Sam, won the Wuerffel Trophy just last year!

In addition to this trophy and the award he is a finalist for that I wrote about in my October  blog, Emmanuel Acho is also a semifinalist for the 2011 Lott Trophy by the Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation. This award is given to a player who exhibits: Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity. Sam was also a finalist for this award, in 2010.

Way to play and help your community, Emmanuel! You're making the 'Horns proud!

In what is sure to be quite the entrance, the Army's 82nd Airborne All-American Free Fall Demonstration team will commence the pre-game ceremonies as four jumpers will skydive onto the field to present the USA flag, Texas flag, UT flag and the game ball!

What a great way to honor the troops that serve for us every day! Thank you to the troops for all you do!

Texas Longhorns baseball game assignments for 2012 Houston College Classic Minute Maid Park

The Texas Longhorns baseball team have received their game assignments for the 2012 Houston College Classic. The Houston Astros field, Minute Maid Park, is the venue for the Houston College Classic. The Astros announced the Longhorns will be slated against the Rice Owls, Tennessee Volunteers and the Arkansas Razorbacks.

The tournament kicks off on Friday, March 2 at 7 p.m. with the Texas Longhorns playing against Rice Owls. This game will be the first Longhorns vs Owls match-up since the 2010 NCAA Austin Regional, where the Longhorns ended the season for the Owls, winning 4-1.

Texas Longhorns basketball Freshman point guard Myck Kabongo

Freshman point guard Myck Kabongo joined the Texas Longhorns basketball team this year, coming from Toronto, Canada. Myck says there were a lot of factors in choosing The University of Texas as his college. Kabongo says his strong relationship with Coach Barnes was the first factor he considered, since a point guard needs a good relationship with his coach. He also considered the location. Longhorns point guard Kabongo says that Austin is a great city. The last factor he considered is the style of play, Kabongo loves the Texas Longhorns basketball style of play.

The coaching staff wants the best from you and the best for you, pushing the team as individuals and as a team, according to Myck Kabongo. He continues, saying it's helpful to have coaches who care about you.

The privilege and pleasure is all his, Kabongo says, as he is just trying to make his mark at the Univeristy of Texas, like those before him, T.J. Ford, D.J. Augustin and Royal Ivey.

The adjustment from Canada to Austin has been an easy one for Kabongo. He says the people are like family and he sees Austin as his second home.

He had no qualms about his future, as he knows the Texas Longhorns basketball player development is unbelievable. He knows the coaching staff at UT puts the players in the right position to be able to move up to the next level.

The Texas Longhorns basketball schedule starts soon, and we'll be able to see first-hand how well the Longhorns 2011-2012 basketball team will play this year! There are Texas Longhorns basketball tickets available at www.longhornsbasketballtickets.com! Let's go 'Horns!
