Texas Longhorns basketball stadium Frank Erwin Center

The Texas Longhorns Men's and Women's basketball teams play home games at the Frank Erwin Center and have been playing basketball games there since the 1977-78 season. The Longhorns Frank Erwin Center address is 1701 Red River Street, Austin, Tx 78701. Frank Erwin Center is a basketball arena covered in the burnt orange color that screams Longhorns, and has many banners hanging from the ceiling, listing all the championships of Texas Basketball.

Frank Erwin Center holds 16,734 Longhorn's fans, which is the largest arena seating in the Big 12 Conference. The Longhorns basketball arena has been remodeled to include 28 luxury suites at the top of the arena section as well as a new Jumbotron scoreboard and LCD screen that runs around the top of the arena section. Concession stands and bathrooms have been moved and remodeled, allowing the concourse areas be to be widened.

The arena gets it's name from former UT Board of Regents member Frank Erwin. Erwin was a key part in the expansion of all the Longhorns facilities during his term.

Texas Longhorns History of "Hook 'em Horns" hand signal

Have you ever wondered when the "Hook em Horns" hand signal got started? Here is the answer for you! Harley Clark was the head cheerleader at the University of Texas at Austin, and in 1955 at a pep rally, he introduced the "Hook 'em Horns" hand signal. His reasoning was that the Longhorns were playing a "fine team" and they had to "make up in spirit what we lacked on the football field." So, at the pep rally, Clark showed the student body how to make the Horns hand sign and as head cheerleader, ordered the sign be used from that point forward.

Clark had gotten the idea of the hand signal from fellow student Henry Pitts, three days before Clark introduced it at the pep rally before playing Texas Christian University.

What might look like a way to show you like heavy metal music to some people, all us Longhorn's fans know better!

Hook 'em Horns!!!

Texas Longhorns basketball winning streak

The Texas Longhorns basketball team won on Tuesday December 13th, 2011, extending their winning streak to six games. Each of these wins has had different players leading the team in scoring, with some new players shining!

Jaylen Bond, a freshman forward, had his first career double-double with career highs of 18 points and 12 rebounds! What a game! Another newbie to show his stuff is freshman Sterling Gibbs, who had 14 points, 5-of-5 field goals and 3-for-3 three-point field goals.

Gibbs says because they were not there in the summer to practice, it took them a little bit to get into the swing of things, now they are more comfortable with the playbook and their conditioning is improved.

Look for more young players to shine! They are the future of this team, and I see great things happening for the Texas Longhorns basketball team!
