Texas Longhorns Ranked No. 20 in Post-Spring Poll

ESPN's college football panelists released their post-spring Top 25 poll, with Oklahoma still at No. 1, followed by Alabama, Oregon, LSU, and Boise State.  The Texas Longhorns checked in at #20.  Mack Brown had a down year last year in which they did not qualify for a bowl game.  His work will be cut out for him this season as they try to redeem themselves.

Texas Longhorns Baseball Update

The Texas Longhorns baseball team is currently 33-11 on the season and tied with Texas A&M atop the Big 12 standings.  They have been playing great baseball and continue to one of the best fundamentally sound teams in the country.  They have the best team defense in all of the country.  Come out and support your Texas Longhorns baseball team!  Purchase your Texas Longhorns baseball tickets from Ticket King today!

Cory Joseph and Jordan Hamilton Join NBA Draft

Underclassmen Cory Joseph and Jordan Hamilton have joined fellow Texas Longhorn Tristan Thompson and have entered their names in the 2011 NBA Draft.  Losing the three players really hurts the Longhorns and this is a tough blow to handle.  It was expected that at least two of the three players would stay.  Unfortunately, all three have left and have until May 8th to withdraw if they did not hire an agent.  If they stay in the draft, good luck and represent the Longhorns proudly.

Will Garrett Gilbert Step Up Next Season?

The quarterback of the Texas Longhorns is Garrett Gilbert.  You probably already know that.  He was all-world in high school.  He was a big recruit for Mack Brown.  He was thrown into the National Championship Game when Colt McCoy went down, where he threw a few touchdown passes as well as some picks.  Last season, he threw 10 touchdowns and 17 interceptions.  Yes, he was just a "freshman."  However, the expectations are always high in Texas and Gilbert will be expected to make a huge transition if they want any chance to compete for a National Title.

Top Running Back Selects Texas Longhorns

It's a great day to be a Texas Longhorns fan!  Looks like Mack Brown just picked up another top running back!

According to ESPN:

"Johnathan Gray, considered to be the best high school running back in Texas and perhaps the best prep running back in the country, committed to Texas, picking the Longhorns over Texas A&M and TCU.

The Aledo, Texas, native placed a call on Thursday night to Texas coach Mack Brown and delivered the news, according to a report in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Most individual prospect rankings haven't been finalized yet, but the running back can validate his non-binding commitment by signing his letter of intent next February.

Back in January, ESPN RISE named Gray, a 5-foot-10, 195-pounder, Mr. Football USA, the award for the national player of the year. He was the first junior to ever win the award.

In the state championship game last December, he ran for 323 yards and eight touchdowns, finishing with 3,183 for the season."

Tristan Thompson Declares for NBA Draft

Tristan Thompson is leaving the University of Texas to the NBA.  The freshman anchored the Longhorns team this season as a freshman and played exceptionally well.  Thompson averaged 13.1 points, 7.8 rebounds (second-best in the Big 12) and 2.4 blocks per game.  Thompson's draft stock increased when higher rated players at the same position, like Jared Sullinger (Ohio State), Perry Jones III (Baylor) and Harrison Barnes (North Carolina), decided to stay in school.  He is expected to be a mid-to-late 1st round pick, but definitely has upside with his age.  Good luck Tristan!
