Malcolm Brown Twitter

Here's a link to Malcolm Brown's twitter as well. Malcolm Brown is an incoming freshman running back who is a five star recruit according to many recruiting services.  He should play a critical role in the Longhorn's offense next season.  The link to his page is right here

Texas Longhorns 2012 Recruiting Class, Number One

ESPN recently updated the class rankings of the 2012 recruiting classes in college football.  The school who has the number one class in the nation so far?  That's right, it's our Longhorns!

The Longhorns have nine commitments from the ESPN top 150.  Five star running back Johnathan Gray is joined by top 35 recruits receivers Cayleb Jones and Thomas Johnson.

Last year's 5-7 season has not slowed down the Longhorns on the recruiting trail one bit.

Texas Football Team Preview: Defense

So if you read my last post, you can see the there are a ton of question marks over on the offensive side of the football for the Texas Longhorns next season.  This defense is loaded with talent and depth at all positions.  It ranked 6th in the nation last year in total defense and 1st in the Big 12.

The linebackers are led by Emmanuel Acho, Keenan Robinson, and Jordan Hicks.  The first two are seniors who are proven and dominant.  The scary part about this trio is that the Sophomore Hicks, might end up being the best of the bunch by the time the season is over.  Maybe the best linebackers in the nation right here.

Jackson Jeffcoat and Alex Okafor are serious talents, both were rated as five starts at one point.  They man the defensive line and should put a ton of pressure on opposing quarterbacks.  Kheeston Randall is a really solid player in the middle.

Cornerback should be an iffy place for this defense as they return no starters.  Thankfully for the secondary, they boast the best safety tandem in the country with Blake Gideon and Kenny Vaccaro.

Texas Longhorns Ranked No. 20 in Post-Spring Poll

ESPN's college football panelists released their post-spring Top 25 poll, with Oklahoma still at No. 1, followed by Alabama, Oregon, LSU, and Boise State.  The Texas Longhorns checked in at #20.  Mack Brown had a down year last year in which they did not qualify for a bowl game.  His work will be cut out for him this season as they try to redeem themselves.

Will Garrett Gilbert Step Up Next Season?

The quarterback of the Texas Longhorns is Garrett Gilbert.  You probably already know that.  He was all-world in high school.  He was a big recruit for Mack Brown.  He was thrown into the National Championship Game when Colt McCoy went down, where he threw a few touchdown passes as well as some picks.  Last season, he threw 10 touchdowns and 17 interceptions.  Yes, he was just a "freshman."  However, the expectations are always high in Texas and Gilbert will be expected to make a huge transition if they want any chance to compete for a National Title.

Mack Brown Closes Spring Practice To Media

Mack Brown is not happy with the Texas Longhorns 5-7 record last season. He is taking stephs to make sure that doesn't happen again. With Spring Practice starting Thursday, Mack Brown has decided to close the practices to the media. Brown has closed most of his team practices for several years, but said he decided to close them all this year because he doesn't want any distractions for himself, his players and his staff. It was the first losing season at Texas in 13 years. Mack Brown is keeping all of spring drills closed to the public until the annual team scrimmage on April 3.
