Texas Longhorns senior Emmanuel Acho makes headlines again

In an update to my blog post on Emmanuel Acho in October, the Texas Longhorns football player has made headlines again!

Emmanuel Acho has been named a finalist for the 2011 Wuerffel Trophy, announced by the All Sports Association, Inc. The Wuerffel is presented to the college football player who best combines exemplary community service with outstanding academic and athletic achievement.

The Acho family makes some outstanding citizens! Emmanuel's brother, Sam, won the Wuerffel Trophy just last year!

In addition to this trophy and the award he is a finalist for that I wrote about in my October  blog, Emmanuel Acho is also a semifinalist for the 2011 Lott Trophy by the Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation. This award is given to a player who exhibits: Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity. Sam was also a finalist for this award, in 2010.

Way to play and help your community, Emmanuel! You're making the 'Horns proud!

Texas Longhorns football player Emmanuel Acho 2011 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award Finalist

Emmanuel Acho, a senior Texas Longhorn football player, was selected for the 2011 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award, as a finalist. The Lowe's Senior CLASS Award honors students who excel in football as well as off the field--community, classroom, character and competition. An overall stand-up citizen!

The 10 finalists were chosen by a media committee from an original group of 30 student-athletes that was announced back in August. The winner is determined partly by nationwide fan voting, which is currently taking place now through December 5. The fan voting, combined with media and Division I FBS head coaches' votes to finalize the one winner of the award.

Acho has been a member of UT's Athletics Director's Honor Roll six times throughout his college career. Acho is majoring in sports management and regularly visits patients at the Dell Children's Medical Center. Emmanuel also does a medical mission trip to Nigeria with his dad and brother.
In addition, Acho speaks weekly to at-risk youth at local high schools with the Longhorn Leaders class, and speaks at the local chapters of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Acho has played in 41 games, with 19 starts, as a Longhorn fourth-year linebacker. He leads the team in tackles, at 58, in the first six games of the season.

The CLASS acronym stands for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, and the award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their status in sports to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities! Emmanuel Acho does just that! Good luck to our Texas Longhorns football Lowe's Senior CLASS Award finalist!
