Colorado Buffaloes Pull Off Huge Upset


The Texas Longhorns were defeated by the Colorado Buffaloes on Saturday afternoon.  It was a monumental upset for the Buffaloes.  The Buffaloes stormed back from a 22-point first-half deficit and overcame a 48-33 halftime hole behind Alec Burks' 33 points and Levi Knutson's 21. This latest loss dropped Texas into a tie for first place in the Big 12 with Kansas, which beat Oklahoma 82-70.  Hopefully the Longhorns can rebound from this victory.  Next up:  Home vs. Kansas State on Monday, February 28th.

Texas Longhorns Rebound For Big Victory Over Iowa State


Following a tough and emotional loss to the Nebraska Cornhuskers, the Texas Longhorns rebounded for a nice victory against the Iowa State Cyclones.  The Longhorns cruised to a 76-53 victory with Tristan Thompson leading the way with 17 points and 14 rebounds.  Texas built an 11 point lead by halftime and never looked back.  Jordan Hamilton also chipped in 20 points, breaking out of a two-game shooting slump.  Gary Johnson finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds. 

Nebraska Cornhuskers Halt 11 Game Winning-Streak


The Nebraska Cornhuskers defeated the Texas Longhorns 70-67 on Saturday, in Nebraska.  It was a tough loss for the Longhorns, who had won 11 straight.  The Cornhuskers are 18-8 on the season and 6-6 in the Big 12.  Brandon Richardson hit a pair of free throws with 7.2 seconds left to seal the Cornhuskers' 70-67 win on Saturday. Nebraska hadn't beaten a team ranked in the top three since knocking off No. 3 Missouri 98-91 in the 1994 Big Eight Conference tournament.  It was quite the wild game in Lincoln.  Husker fans stormed the court after the huge upset.  Jordan Hamilton had 18 points for the Longhorns. 

Mack Brown Closes Spring Practice To Media

Mack Brown is not happy with the Texas Longhorns 5-7 record last season. He is taking stephs to make sure that doesn't happen again. With Spring Practice starting Thursday, Mack Brown has decided to close the practices to the media. Brown has closed most of his team practices for several years, but said he decided to close them all this year because he doesn't want any distractions for himself, his players and his staff. It was the first losing season at Texas in 13 years. Mack Brown is keeping all of spring drills closed to the public until the annual team scrimmage on April 3.

Texas Longhorns Move to #2 In Country


The Texas Longhorns are now the #2 team in the country.  The only team ahead of them are the Kansas Jayhawks, who the Longhorns have already defeated this season.  Kansas received 14 of the 31 first-place votes, while Texas garnered 13.  Ohio State, the unanimous No. 1 for the past three weeks, dropped to third after losing its first game of the season Saturday to Wisconsin in Madison. Jerry Gray Leaves Texas Longhorns for Tennessee Titans


Jerry Gray has left the University of Texas for the Tennessee Titans of the NFL.  Jerry Gray was hired by Texas, his alma mater, to be the defensive backs coach and assistant head coach to Mack Brown last month. He was due to make $425,000, but his job with Tennessee will most likely double that.  A two-time All-American at Texas, Gray was a four-time Pro Bowl pick during his nine NFL seasons with the Los Angeles Rams, Houston Oilers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. 

Texas Longhorns Take Down Baylor Bears


The #3 Texas Longhorns defeated the Baylor Bears 69-60.  The victory made it the 10th in a row for the Longhorns, who could vault to #1 after Ohio State suffered their first loss of the season.  Freshman Tristan Thompson had 17 points and 13 rebounds in the victory.  The Longhorns had a 16 point first half lead but they watched the Bears rally in the 2nd half.  The Bears cut the lead to 63-60 until Texas finished on a 6-0 run.

Team Texas Defeats Team Nation 13-7

Team Texas defeated Team Nation 13-7, a game which features NFL Draft Eligible players. It went down to the wire, with linebacker Eddie Jones tackling Damien Berry at the 1-yard line on fourth down with 55 seconds to go, helping Team Texas hold on for a 13-7 victory over Team Nation. Texas Tech quarterback Taylor Potts guided scoring drives the first two times he appeared on the field, and that was enough for Team Texas. The offensive player of the game completed 9 of 15 passes for 107 yards. The game was played in San Antonio, Texas as an NFLPA All-Star Game.

Texas Longhorns 76, Texas Tech Red Raiders 60


The Texas Longhorns stayed pefect in the Big 12 with a 76-60 victory over the Texas Tech Red Raiders on Saturday, in Austin, Texas.  Jordan Hamilton had 16 points and nine rebounds for the Longhorns (20-3, 8-0), who are off to their best start in the Big 12.  John Roberson scored 16 points for Texas Tech (11-13, 3-6).  The Red Raiders battled from a 21 point deficit to as close as 6 points, but they couldn't manage to overcome the Longhorns.  Next up for the Longhorns, at Oklahoma on Wednesday, February 9th.

Texas Football Recruiting Analysis


National Signing Day was earlier this week, with colleges lining up to get their top recruits.  The Texas Longhorns had another solid recruiting year.  ESPN gave them an "A".  The Longhorns signed 22 players, 21 of whom played in Texas.  Running back Malcom Brown is the big headliner, the nation's No. 2 running back and No. 7 overall prospect. Cornerback Quandre Diggs gives the Longhorns the nation's top corner and No. 21 overall prospect. They got the best grade in the Big 12, beating out rival Oklahoma.
